Improving Developer Life - Application Setup

I am a big fan of improving developer life in the software development lifecycle.

One part of the lifecycle that we can always improve: application setup for the developer.

In the past - I’ve worked at places where the local application setup was a rite of passage for joining the team. At the time, that was the best there was - a README and the rest is up to you.

This felt like another challenge - especially after passing rounds of grueling interview challenges already.

If I made it this far, what’s another challenge??

Hence, teams just don’t put emphasis on application setup for a new (or even existing) developer. New team members see it as another challenge, existing team members already solved the problem and it’s not a problem for them.
