As I was preparing to re-enter the software industry, I took the same approach as I did when going in.

At the time, it was easy to get an interview because demand for experienced software developers is (and still) high.

Big caveat: my knowledge was non-traditional. A research lab is almost an extension of academia and when I interviewed, well, let’s just say, that showed.

Remember how I considered bugs to be “unavoidable” part of software? I considered that to be a truth because I was in a rush to get back working, I never looked for another solution. I just “knew everything”.

How wrong would I be.

I was lucky that I found the right people to help adjust my attitude.
