ASUS Router DHCP Issue with Modem
If you have an ASUS Router and it is giving you the error:
ISP’s DHCP does not function correctly
The way I solved my issue is:
- Have the ASUS router clone the MAC address of the modem.
- Set the
DHCP Query Frequency
to continuous or normal mode.
The ASUS mobile app does not expose these settings. The way I got to them was from a direct web connection to the router. In the http://router.asus.com/index.asp page, on the left panel, there is a section:
- “Advanced Settings”
- WAN
- “Special Requirement from ISP”
- WAN
That has the following:
Enter the MAC Address of your router as is - clicking on the “MAC Clone” button will clone the address of your current device, which may work. I had the router clone my modem’s MAC.
I struggled with my new ASUS router RT-AX82U for awhile because of the DHCP issue. I got it working once and just happened to “reboot” the router and nothing worked.
The worst part was my old setup - Apple AirPort Time Capsule just worked with my modem every time.
Cloning the MAC address and reducing the DHCP query frequency fixed my problem.
Hope this helps you (or future me…😒)
